Activating Copilot

  • To use Copilot on websites, you must have a ChatGPT Anywhere Pro membership.

You can sign up for a free trial here (opens in a new tab).

  • Once you have a Pro membership, you can activate Copilot on a website by clicking on the "ChatGPT Anywhere" extension icon, or via a keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + C (MacOS), Alt + C (Windows).

Starting a new chat

  • Click on the "New chat" icon.
  • Select the GPT model you want to use for the chat (defaults to GPT-3.5).
  • Enter your prompt in the text field and click the green send button to send the prompt. Alternatively, you can use the Cmd / Ctrl + Enter keyboard shortcut to send the prompt.

View a recent chat

  • Click on the "Recent chat" icon.
    • This view will contain the chat your most recently interacted with and you can continue the chat from where you left off. If you have not interacted with any chats, this view will be empty.

Managing your chat history

  • Click the "View chats" icon to access your chat history, folders, and pinned items.
    • You can move, rename, and delete items from this view.
    • Note: Changes made or new chats created within the Copilot are automatically synced to your account.

Using OpenAI API keys

  • You can use an OpenAI API key to chat with GPT-4, instead of using your ChatGPT account.

You can create an API key from your OpenAI dashboard (opens in a new tab).

  • To use your API key, click on the "Settings" icon and enter your API key into the text field. Click "Save" to save your API key.

  • Toggle on the switch to start using your OpenAI API key for GPT-4 chats. You can toggle it off at any time to revert back to using your ChatGPT account for GPT-4 chats.

  • Note: GPT-4 chats created with your API key will not be synced to your ChatGPT account.

  • Note: Your OpenAI API key is not used for GPT-3.5 model because they are free to use through your ChatGPT account, therefore we only do this for the GPT-4 model.

Troubleshooting

Copilot not showing up when I click the extension icon or use the keyboard shortcut.

No response from GPT-4 chat.

  • If you are using an API key, check that your API key is valid and that you have not reached your account usage limits.
  • If you are using your ChatGPT account, try reloading the page and start a new chat.
